It is said to have been built by the Kakatiyas 1200 years ago. From that time till now, that deity has lived as Dakshina Kashi, fulfilling the wishes of the devotees.
In the eastern part there are Surya, in the south-east is Ayyappa Swami, in the southern part there are Veerabhadra, Kalabhairava and Dwadasa Jyotirlingas. It is believed that if a devotee visits this Shiva temple, which is spreading like a Mahakshetra, it will be as if the Kamadhenu Kalpa tree is consumed by Ishwar. And on the day of Shivratri, there will be Abhishekam, Kalyanam and Jagarana Bilvashtakam.
