India – Pakistan : Narendra Modi's

India – Pakistan: Do you remember that our army did a surgical strike on the country of Pakistan? India has taken operations as a counter to Uri and Pulwama incidents. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not stopping there. They are pointing the finger at Pakistan, which has created chaos in the borders of Kashmir and other parts of the country. The water of the Ravi River, which is the main source of Pakistan's agriculture, was blocked from going that way. While this should have happened in the past.. because of the “liberal” politics of the previous governments, Pakistan has used the waters. Farming with the water that we have given.. has blown our country. A series of bombings rocked the country. After Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, he mainly focused on Pakistan. Many steps have been taken to curb terrorism. Revolutionary decisions like abrogation of Article 370, series of surgical strikes, and now diverting the flow towards India have been taken.

In fact, the waters of the Ravi River should belong to India as per the earlier agreement. But because of the ineffective politics of the previous governments, Pakistan used the water as Darja for 45 years. In this order, the central government under the leadership of BJP completely stopped the flow of Ravi river towards Pakistan. By building a dam on this river, the waters will be available to all of India. In 1960, the Indus Water Treaty was signed between India and Pakistan under the supervision of the World Bank. Accordingly, India decided at that time to build a dam to stop the current flow from this river to Pakistan. An agreement was signed in 1979 between the governments of Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir for the construction of this dam. It has been decided to build Ranjit Sagar Dam on the upper side and Shahpur Kandi Barrage on the lower side on the river Ravi. In this regard, the then Chief Ministers of Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah and Prakash Singh Badal completed the signing process. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi laid the foundation stone for the construction of this project in 1982. While the construction of this project was supposed to be completed by 1998, there was a delay due to various reasons.

The construction of Ranjit Sagar Dam was completed in 2001. Construction of Shahpur Kandi barrage stopped. As a result, Ravi river water was supplied to Pakistan uninterruptedly. But in 2008, the center declared this project as a national project. Although construction started in 2013, the construction of the project was halted due to differences between the governments of Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. In 2018, the construction work started again after mediation by the Centre. As the construction of this project has finally been completed, the flow to Pakistan has been completely stopped since Sunday.

After the construction of this project is completed, the water generated will be diverted to Kathua and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir. 32 thousand hectares will be irrigated through this project. 20% of the hydropower generated by this project will be provided to Jammu and Kashmir. These waters are also useful for the states of Punjab and Rajasthan. According to the agreement reached in 1960, Indus, Jhelum and Chenab were given to Pakistan. Beas and Sutlej rivers belong to India. The agreement was signed by Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Pakistani President Ayub Khan. Farmers are rejoicing as Ravi river water is coming in full after decades.
