Popular Tamil playback singer Uma Ramanan (72) passed away in Chennai due to illness. She is survived by husband AV Ramanan and son Vignesh Ramanan. Uma has sung many Songs in Tamil. A classical singer, Uma has continued her musical journey for 35 years. So far participated in 6000 concerts. The song “Punga Tave Talthi Rawai” in the Tamil movie Nijal Gal brought her fame. “Bhupalam Isaikkum” from the movie “Thural Ninnu Puchu”, “Anandaragam” from the movie “Punnar Pushpangal”, “Kanmani Nee Vara” from the movie “Thendrale Ennai Todu”, “Pon Mane” from the movie “Dair Qaidiyaan”, Arangetra Velai, Agaya Vennilawe, composed by Ilayaraja. Songs like Sriranganathanin brought her fame. Her last song was “Kannum Kannu Mtaan Kalam Dhagu” in Vijay starrer Tirupachi.

Uma's death casts a pall over the Tamil film industry. After hearing the news of her death, film celebrities paid tribute to Uma's body. Several music directors from other Tamil industries expressed their condolences. Reminding them of their connection with her.
