Telugu people are all over the world. They have established themselves in various fields and have gained excellent reputation. But none of the Telugus have gone into space so far. Thus Totakuru Gopichand is going to create a rare feat as the first Telugu man to go into space. A company called Blue Origin revealed this on Twitter X. Gopichand will go on a space trip as part of the New Shepherd project undertaken by this organization. Despite being in America, Gopichand has an Indian passport.
Blue Origin is owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. The company is already carrying out space missions under the name of New Shepherd Mission. In 2021 many people including Jeff Bezos have made a space flight. Six people including Gopichand have been selected for the NS-25 mission undertaken by Blue Origin. The team includes prominent venture capitalist Mason Angel, French businessman Sylvain Chiron, American tech businessman H.S. Kenneth, adventure traveler Carol Salar, and former US Air Force captain Dwight. In 1961, Dwight got a chance to go on a space flight. But due to various reasons he could not go on that trip.
Gopichand was born in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Gopichand completed his B.Sc in Aeronautical Science from Embrydil Aeronautical University. Settled in America. Gopichand continues to be the founder of Freezever Life, a wellness center established in the state of Atlanta. He was previously trained as a pilot. Worked in medical air evacuation department of our country 10 years ago. But even his family did not know that Gopichand was going on a space flight until the official announcement by Blue Origin. Gopichand wanted to go into space since he was 8 years old. Gopichand is happy that finally that wish is being fulfilled by Blue Origin.
Blue Origin has so far carried 31 people into space in six missions. All of you have gone up to Karman Line which is 80 to 100 km above sea level. This journey lasts for 11 minutes. Members of this group travel at three times the speed of sound. After crossing Karman's line they experience weightlessness for a few minutes. From there, they slowly descend in a special capsule with the help of parachutes while looking at the ground. The cost of the NS-25 mission is being borne not only by Blue Origin but by other individuals as well. But the company is not saying who they are. Not only Origin but also ISRO (Indian Space Organization) is preparing for such space missions. Recently Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the names of the four astronauts selected for this space trip. Indian Air Force Group Captains Prashant Balakrishnan Nair, Angad Pratap, Ajit Krishna and Wing Commander Subhanshu Shukla will be on the space flight.
