Karnataka assembly elections were held in May 2023. Mungita Janardhan Reddy founded Kalyana Rajya Pragathi Paksha Party for that election. Janardhana Reddy played a key role in the defeat of his two brothers Gali Karunakar Reddy and Gali Somesekhar Reddy who contested on BJP tickets from Harpanahalli and Bellary City. His brother Somasekhar Reddy's wife Aruna Lakshmi was executed in Bellary city. This split the votes and the Congress candidate Nara Bharat Reddy won from there. Janardhan Reddy also supported the Congress party in the Rajya Sabha elections held in February. Observing these developments, the BJP high command felt that fighting alone in Karnataka was not advisable. That is why the JDS party led by Deve Gowda adjusted the seats. Now Gali has merged with Janardhan Reddy's party.
Janardhana Reddy was the minister when Yeddyurappa was CM. Janardhan Reddy played a role in the strengthening of BJP in Karnataka. He disagreed with the party on some issues and formed his own party. With this, Reddy's social class was alienated. Janardhana Reddy has good hold in three or four districts. As this general election is crucial for BJP, Amit Shah met Janardhan Reddy a few days ago. The merger of the party was discussed. But he said that he has joined the BJP only on the condition of bay. He also said that he did not join the BJP hoping for a post in the Rajya Sabha. On the whole, it is being spread that Gali Janardhana Reddy joined the BJP because of the fear of defeat in the general elections in Karnataka.
